John Clark (Richard Gere) is a lawyer who is bored with life and with his marriage. Commuting daily he sees a dance studio and sees one of the instructors looking longingly out one of the windows. Thinking his life and marriage needs some spicing up he goes to this dance studio and eventually meets Paulina (Jennifer Lopez) one of the dance instructors. But, to take the lessons he has to make excuses to his wife (Susan Sarandon) why he is late sometimes coming home from work. The hilarity comes from his fellow students who are in the category of losers and from one of his co-workers Link (Stanley Tucci) who dances in the disguise of a Puerto Rican. Eventually he had to come clean with his wife and then the finale arrives. Will he dance with his new partner, his wife, himself or all of the above?
