Earl Brooks (Kevin Costner) has it all, he is very successful has a good wife and a loving daughter; he is living the American dream. However, this is neither his idea of a dream life nor the idea of a dream life for his dark alter ego Marshall (William Hurt). Mr. Brooks is an addict, his addiction is murder and it has been two years since he has fed his addiction.
